Azerbaijan, Baku, September 30 / Trend E. Huseynli /

Opposition's appeals for boycott during every elections and raising the question concerning necessity for changes in the election code turned into unsuccessful tendency, the Azerbaijani government said.

"Opposition's appeals for boycott during every elections and raising the question concerning necessity for changes in the election code turned into unsuccessful tendency.

Knowing that it is unreal to make amendments and changes to the Electoral Code, the opposition once again addressed with these statements, " head of the social-political department of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, Ali Hasanov, told Trend on September 30.

Several parties of 'Movement for Karabakh and Republic' submitted the Parliament proposals to make up to 200 additions and changes in the election code on the eve of the municipal elections. Opposition wants election commission to be formed on a parity basis.

Azerbaijani municipal elections are scheduled for December 2009.

Number of municipalities was reduced from 2,760 to 1,720 in Azerbaijan.

Hasanov said that the election code has already turned into the generated law. Several elections have been already held upon this law.

"Institutions of elections become more professional in Azerbaijan. Their activity causes more trust. Unfortunately, making additions and changes in the election code became a form of opposition's self-expression. But I do not think that it is a proper form of expression. It is possible to find better methods to be in the center of attention," Hasanov said.

Preparation for the elections is held normally. Institutions of elections seriously prepare for this process, head of the department in the presidential administration.

"I think that current municipal elections will be held at higher level than previous ones. More interest will be paid to current municipal elections," Hasanov said.

Answering the question whether opposition's weakness will impact negatively on competition, he said that society expects no problems on this regards.
