Executive Director of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) Inés Alberdi will pay an official visit to Georgia May 10-12.
Within the visit it is planned to hold meetings with the representatives of the Georgian Parliament, executive and local authorities. Alberdi also will meet with representatives of NGOs, women's groups, refugees and the media outlets.
The aim of the official visit is to study the current situation, issues of gender equality and women's rights in Georgia. Within a three-day visit Inés Alberdi will also visit the Shida Kartli region, where he will meet with representatives of local authorities and women affected by conflict in the settlement of refugees in Karaleti.
The Fund jointly with the Norwegian government implements the project "Women for equality, peace and development".
Inés Alberdi will also attend meeting of the Interdepartmental Council on the implementation of measures to combat domestic violence and examine construction of efuges for family of violence victims. Construction is carried out under the project of the Fund with the support of the Swedish Agency for International Development.
