The U.S. Senate is likely to adopt a resolution on Georgia.
A draft of the resolution reflects important issues such as territorial integrity, de-occupation and ethnic cleansing, Georgian Acting Ambassador in the United States and Canada Batu Kutelia said.
In the draft document, senators urge Russia to honor the ceasefire agreement, to de-occupy the territories and to promote the dignified return of Georgian IDPs.
The resolution also recognizes Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Kutelia said the document recognizes that Abkhazia and South Ossetia are integral parts of Georgia under Russian occupation.
"This is the main message, which is directed not only at Russia, but the entire civilized world," Kutelia said.
Georgian Integration into European and Euro-Atlantic Structures Minister Georgi Baramidze, who is currently on a working visit to the United States, noted that "this resolution on occupation will strengthen Georgia's position in the struggle for de-occupation."
Military actions were launched in the unrecognized republic of South Ossetia in August 2008. Georgian troops entered Tskhinvali, with Russian troops later occupying the city. The Russian armed forces drove the Georgian military back into Georgia proper. Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia on Aug. 26 and established diplomatic ties with the de facto states on Sept. 9, 2008.
