There may be a new position in the Azerbaijani opposition party Musavat. It will be set up for Isa Gambar after he leaves his leadership post, a source in the party told Trend today. The new position will allow Mr Gambar to control the intra-party processes.
From a theoretical point of view, another position in the party is possible, as deputy chairman Gulaga Aslanli said in an interview with Trend today. However members had not yet discussed the issue of establishing a new post yet. Last year, Isa Gambar said that he would not run for the leading position in Musavat.
"After Mr Gambar leaves his post in Musavat, he has the opportunity to become the chairman of the Mejlis of the party," he said. "The charter allows him to take on this role, as well as deputy chairman and regional chairman. At the same time he can remain an ordinary member of the party. The charter will allow this opportunity. The creation of an additional post was not discussed today."
He said that even if Isa Gambar remains an ordinary member of Musavat, he can still be an active politician. A decision was made at a meeting of the Mejlis of Musavat on January 7 to hold the VIII Party Congress on March 3-4
The regional sections of the party have already completed preparations for the congress.
