The Azerbaijan-Georgia relations are based on friendship and partnership, said Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.

“And now we have the task to deepen and strengthen these relations,” he told a briefing after the talks with his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Janelidze Feb. 13.

Azerbaijan and Georgia support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of each other, the Azerbaijani FM said.

“Georgia chairs the GUAM [Organization for Democracy and Economic Development] this year and today, during the talks, we discussed the cooperation within this regional organization,” Mammadyarov said.

One of the topics of the talks was the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project, particularly its quick implementation, according to Mammadyarov.

The BTK railway is being constructed on the basis of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey intergovernmental agreement.

Peak capacity of the railway will be 17 million tons of cargo per year. At the initial stage, it will serve one million passengers and transport 6.5 million tons of cargo.
