BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 17. Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Sahiba Gafarova, met with Speaker of the Advisory Council of the Sultanate of Oman, Khalid bin Hilal Nasser Al Maawali, who arrived in Azerbaijan to participate in the 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), the parliament's Press and Public Relations Department told Trend.
"During the meeting, there was a strong sense of confidence regarding the productivity of the upcoming plenary session and the discussion of key issues. The Assembly was highlighted as a vital platform for parliamentary diplomacy, bringing together legislative bodies from across Asia. It was further emphasized that such forums play a crucial role in fostering dialogue and collaboration among the legislative institutions of participating countries. The conversation also reflected satisfaction with the high level of political relations and dialogue between Azerbaijan and the Sultanate of Oman. The historical, religious, and cultural ties between the two nations were recognized as a solid foundation for further strengthening bilateral relations. It was noted that there are ample opportunities to expand cooperation in areas such as economics, trade, and beyond.
Gafarova highlighted the positive cooperation and mutual support between the two countries in important international organizations such as the United Nations (UN), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). The cooperation was discussed in the context of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, initiated by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. A high evaluation was given to the work done to create and strengthen the institutional foundations of the organization since its founding conference under Azerbaijan's chairmanship.
Khalid bin Hilal Nasser Al Maawali reiterated his country's support for Azerbaijan within the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement and other international organizations. He expressed gratitude for the invitation to visit Azerbaijan and participate in the event, emphasizing his country's full membership in the Assembly during Azerbaijan's chairmanship. He also expressed confidence that the upcoming 15th plenary session in Baku would significantly contribute to the organization's future activities.
The meeting further highlighted the strengthening of parliamentary relations between Azerbaijan and Oman, particularly in recent years. Mutual visits and contacts have played a crucial role in the development of these relations," the department statement said.
