BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 26. On May 26, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev inspected the ongoing construction of the Mughanli-Ismayilli-Gabala section of the Baku-Shamakhi-Mughanli-Ismayilli-Gabala highway, Trend reports.
Saleh Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads, briefed the head of state on the progress of the project.
It was reported that 70 percent of the overall project has been completed. The road, constructed according to the second technical category, has a total length of 85.6 kilometers. As a result of the reconstruction, the route will be shortened by 8.8 kilometers. A suspension bridge is being built over the Aghsuchay River along the route, with 40 percent of the work on the bridge completed. Following the bridge, a tunnel 885 meters long is under construction. In total, the new project includes the design of 17 bridges along the road, including one suspension bridge and tunnels.
The Baku-Shamakhi-Mughanli-Ismayilli-Gabala highway holds special importance for facilitating convenient travel for the population and is considered the shortest main route connecting the capital Baku with the districts of Ismayilli, Gabala, Oghuz, Sheki, Gakh, Zagatala, and Balakan. This road, leading to important tourism regions of the republic, was originally constructed in the 1970s under the initiative of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and is now being reconstructed under the directives of President Ilham Aliyev.
