The ex-Speaker, chairman of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA) Rasul Guliyev has been registered at the Central Election Committee (CEC) as a candidate to MP and the “immunity status” has not been removed from him, head of the department on law enforcement bodies of the Azerbaijan’s President Executive Office Fuad Aleskerov told the conference “Elections and Democratic Development” on 5 September, Trend reports.
According to him, �the immunity status” of Rasul Guliyev is valid from the day of the official registration at CEC till the day of the official announcement of the voting results. However, this “immunity” refers only to those offences, which will be committed by the candidate in the “after registration period”.
В"In this case, the arrest of Rasul Guliyev will be possible only by the sanction of the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan. However, the immunity status is not valid in regard to those offences, which had been committed by the ex-Speaker before registering at CEC of Azerbaijan”, an official said.
В"Under the 10 October 2000 sentence passed on Rasul Guliyev he was to be arrested and the sentence was to be implemented, namely, upon arrival in Baku he will be arrested”, summarized Fuad Aleskerov.
