Discussion of two reports by Azerbaijan government to be held on 19 January within 41-th session of UNO Committee

Discussions of the 2-nd and 3-d periodic reports of the Azerbaijan government on the UNO Convention on Children Rights will take place on 19 January 2006 in the framework of the 41-st session of the UNO Committee on childrens rights, deputy foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov said on 14 January during open discussions of reports, according to Trend.

Khalafov told about the steps taken by the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan in the field of the childrens rights defense. He reminded that Milli Mejlis (the Parliament) of Azerbaijan passed on 21 June 1991 the law on childrens rights defense, having initialed thus the UNO Convention on rights of the children of 1989. According to Khalafov, the first periodical report of the Azerbaijan government suggested for the UNO Committee on childrens rights discussion in 1995 was positively assessed and new recommendations were elaborated based on it to the Cabinet of Ministers. The action plan was adopted and the working group established by the government decision.

В"One of the UNO basic recommendations on the Convention implementation was translation and dissemination of its text, which was performed in the shortest possible time, the Foreign Minister deputy noted, appreciating especially highly the activities of the Heydar Aliyev foundation on support of the growing generation.

However, according to Khalafov, it would not be correct to speak of the complete absence of problems in this field. В"For today Azerbaijan resolves problems of 300,000 refugee and IDP children, Khalafov noted, voicing approval by the support of the international structures in this field.

Deputy heads of some Ministries, deputy Prosecutor General, leaders of NGOs took part in debates.

It should be noted the UNO Committee on childrens rights 41-st session started on 9 January 2006 in Vienna and will last till 27 January.
