Russian President appoints Amb to Azerbaijan

Vasiliy Istratov has been appointed a plenipotentiary and extraordinary ambassador of Russia to Azerbaijan. A presidential decree on his appointment was placed at the website of the Kremlin, Trend reports.

The post of the head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan has been vacant since September 2004. Nikolay Ryabov held this position previously. The newly appointed ambassador will come to Baku. The diplomat is eager to put every effort for development and consolidation of the relationships between Azerbaijan and Russia.

Istratov was born on 30 December 1954. He is historian by profession and since 1996 has worked deputy Director of the Department for North America of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
