PACE Political Committee Sitting in Baku

A regular sitting of the Political Committee of PACE (Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe) has begun in Baku today. A topic connected with Azerbaijan is also expected to be discussed during the event, Trend reports.

Some 50 delegates and 20 experts of the Council of Europe have arrived in Baku to participate in the event. Elmar Mammadyarov, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister, Ramil Ussubov, Azerbaijan's Interior Minister and Fikret Mammadov, Azerbaijan's Justice Minister participated in the opening of the arrangement.

The agenda of the meeting includes issues such as the membership of Montenegro in the Council of Europe, the situation over Kosovo, the nuclear programme of Iran, an issue on democracy and human rights in member-states of the Council of Europe, the situation in Chechnya. Using oil as an instrument to put pressure upon Europe will be amongst the key topics to be discussed during the meeting.

Issues connected with Middle Asian countries will be discussed during the second day of the meeting. Experts of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzia, Uzbekistan are expected to attend. Hearings in Europe-Azerbaijan-Middle Asia relations and democracy will take place as well.

The sitting of the PACE political Committee is being held privately.
