Explosion of Shamkhor Tanker Due to Technical Crash

The explosion of the Shamkhor Tanker of the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company was caused by the technical crash, Trend reports with reference to the Company.

The explosion took place as a result of the welding works implemented to install gas analyzers in the pipe with the gas accumulation. In addition, it was stated by the Company that earlier, clean-up works had been carried out in the vessel to liquidate the rests of the oil products.

As a result of the accident, 5 people were injured and one employee of the Plant named after Paris Commune died.

Four people participated in implementing the work at the tanker (one died and three injured). Two more people were injured while providing assistance, but today they will leave the hospital. Three people with average damages are also in the hospital. The investigation of this incident is continued by the employees of the Prosecutor Office, Ministry of Emergency Situations and Interior Ministry.

According to the information obtained from the Company, all expenses linked with the treatment of the damaged employees, including expenses for bury of the perished employee (Gurbanli Jalil Heybat born in 1968), will be covered by the Company.

It was stated by the Company that the family of the perished employee will continue receiving his salary until children are 18 years old.

The Shamkhor vessel has the capacity of 12,334 tons. This tanker has the second board as required by the International Security Convention.
