Russia, Moscow / Тrend corr R. Aghayev / Bilateral cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan in the education field is at the correct level and has good prospects, the Russian Education & Science Minister, Andrei Fursenko, said to Trend on 3 September while visiting Moscow's General School 157 which has an ethnic and cultural Azerbaijani component.

Azerbaijan places an emphasis on studying the Russian language which is very important, the minister said. "We are doing lots of work on coordinating joint programs. During my last visit to Azerbaijan the Azerbaijani President said to us that it was a serious priority for him. The opening of branches of Russia's leading universities in Azerbaijan shows that the quality of education in these branches will be controlled jointly. That is proof that we have a unified position on all issues regarding education," Fursenko said.

The Russian President's Assistant, Alexander Beglov, shared his memories of his native Baku city and highly appreciated the activities of the teachers of School 157. " Baku always was and still is a wonderful international city, where different nationalities were friends and still are friends. Although now Baku is capital of independent Azerbaijan, nevertheless we love our native city which is still a good example of international friendship and concord," Beglov said.

The tragedy in Beslan caused Azerbaijan deep sorrow, for terrorism has neither nationality nor religion. Azerbaijan grieves the victims of the Beslan tragedy which happened in September 2004, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia, Polad Bulbuloghlu, said.
