Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend K.Ramazanova / Russia supports the proposal to organize joint and complex operations in its fight against terrorism and other threats in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in the second quarter of 2008, Rashid Nurgaliyev, the Russian Interior Minister, stated in Baku on 7 September.

"To prevent the threats of terrorism and extremism we should carry out special joint training to ensure internal security," Nurgaliyev said.

The Russian Minister said in a news conference dedicated to the results of a 2-day CIS Council of Interior Minister meeting that the efficiency of this work depends upon the training. "The training of specialists is on focus as well. Threats of the 21st century demand us to train specialists on a high level," Nurgaliyev added.

Over the past period over 4,000 professionals have been trained in Russia through the Interior Ministry. Over 600 employees from the CIS countries attend training in Russia and there are plans to admit 155 more.

Nurgaliyev said that CIS ministers had adopted an instruction on international searches. In March 172 people who were investigated by CIS were detained in Russia. At the same time, searches held in Russia resulted in 123 citizens in CIS member-countries. These results testify systematic and efficient work carried out by the Interior Ministers, which is a more important executive body of CIS.
