Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / The court trial involving the detained ex-officer of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Internal Ministry of Azerbaijan, Haji Mammadov, and the members of his gang ended in Azerbaijan on 13 November.
As a result of an operation Mammadov and members of his gang were arrested. Mammadov said the other members of the gang are still free. As a result of an investigation held by the National Security Ministry it was revealed that the members of the gang committed 13 murders and 8 abductions.
The defendants and lawyers expressed their opinion towards the statement made by the State Prosecutor during the process in the Baku Court of Appeals on 13 November. The Prosecutor requested that the sentence passed down by the Heinous Court of Azerbaijan against the members of the gang remain in force.
The sentence will be announced on 23 November.
Mammadov is charged with 80 Articles of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. The Court ruled Mammadov's property was to be seized and he was sentenced to life imprisonment. Members of the gang Farhad Mammadbayov (confiscation of property), Eldar Rahimov (confiscation of property), Malik Mammadov (confiscation of property), Huseyin Abdulvahabov (confiscation of property), Zakir Nasirov (confiscation of property), Kamil Sadraddinov (confiscation of property), Musa Dabuyev, Aslanbay Chintamirov, and Yagir Mammadov were sentenced to life imprisonment. The other defendants Nizami Abdullayev (confiscation of property), Sidak Abdulvahabov, Rovshan Agayev were sentenced to fifteen years, Naila Guliyeva (confiscation of property) and thirteen years, Adalat Asadullayev and Novruz Nuriyev sentenced to twelve years, Aligulu Guliyev, Nishad Ismayilov sentenced to ten years, Faik Guliyev, Elchin Aliyev (confiscation of property) and nine years, and Mehman Hasanov, Fariz Gamidov and Elshan Mirzayev to eight years imprisonment.
Agil Huseynov and Azar Aliyev were sentenced to two years probation.
Ibrahim Bagirov paid damages caused to the State.
