Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 March / corr. Trend I. Alizadeh/ The Pardon Commission at the President of Azerbaijan, has produced before the President a list for pardon comprising some 100 prisoners. "The Pardon Commission has considered the pardon appeals of about 300 prisoners and 100 of them have been introduced to the President for pardon," Elmira Akhundova, the chairman of Pardon Commission and MP said to Trend on 14 March.
According to Akhundova, the names of detained journalists and ordinary citizens have been included in the list that was introduced to the President but she did not divulge the names of journalists.
At present, three journalists have been detained in Azerbaijan.
According to Akhundova, the reports in media about Commission's considering over 1,000 appeals of the prisoners are not true.
The last decree on pardon by Azerbaijani President was signed on 31 December 2007 prior to the New Year. Sentences of two people were shortened and 115 people were released. Since 1995, a total of 44 decrees on pardon have been issued in Azerbaijan.
