Sturgeon fishing in the Iranian province of Gilan increased by 20 percent in the Iranian part of the Caspian Sea, the director of the sturgeon fishing department in Gilan province, Iskhag Shabani, was quoted by Iranian news agency MEHR as saying.
Shabani said that sturgeons weighing 6,890 kilograms were caught in autumn and spring. This is 20 percent more than last year.
He said that sturgeon fishing is carried out by eight companies and 240 fishermen. They are engaged in fishing in the Caspian Sea on the territory from Astara to Chabuksere.
