Azerbaijan recorded fines worth 6.134 million manat for legal and physical persons for environmental crimes in 2010. Some 286,000 manat has already been paid, Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry spokesman Irada Ibrahimova told Trend.
The ministry filed lawsuits worth 1.158 million manat for causing environmental damage, and 128,000 manat has already been paid.
The ministry has filed lawsuits worth 1.194 million manat for causing environmental damage in relation to enterprises and institutions. Over the past year, the activities of the two objects have been suspended in accordance with legislation.
"Unfortunately, legal entities and individuals avoid paying fines, and many acts remain unaddressed," Ibrahimova said.
2010 was declared the Year of Ecology in Azerbaijan.
