A number of international forums and conferences held in Baku have attracted the world's attention to Azerbaijan, ISESCO Director General Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri said Oct. 2.

He was delivering speech at the opening of the fourth International Humanitarian Forum in Baku.

"First of all I express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for launching this world class humanitarian initiative from Baku, a heaven of a dialogue, harmony and tolerance," Altwaijri said.

"President Aliyev has evolved this forum into a globally important gathering of politicians, intellectuals, academics, media professionals, spiritual leaders, religious scholars and decision makers from all disciplines from all over the world to collaboratively discuss issues of intellectual and intercultural dialogue," he said.

Altwaijri said he tends to consider the forum a true expression of human alliance that should be supported, encouraged and given all means to make it a success.

He said that the forum became the alliance of civilizations within a spirit of mutual respect and confidence.

"Today the world needs such an event," Altwaijri said.

"A dozen of international conferences on the mission of dialogue, mutual understanding, tolerance and collaboration were held in Baku," he said. "Some of them were so successful that ISESCO is honored to be participating in organizing some of those forums and meetings."

"For such events Baku has admirably captured the attention of the world with its long traditions and deservingly established itself as an ideal platform for this human project of so great importance toward peace," he said.

Altwaijri said that the forum is an important milestone in global efforts to promote cooperation at the level of governments, regional and international organizations and local community institutions.
