Azerbaijani goods in steady demand in Russia - Ministry of Industry & Trade

Azerbaijani goods are deservedly in steady demand in Russia due to the quality and attractive prices, the country's Ministry of Industry and Trade told Trend on August 3.

According to the ministry, Azerbaijani fruits and vegetables are exported to Russia, and the geography of supplies is very extensive and isn’t limited to its southern and central regions.

The ministry said that every year number of buyers of Azerbaijani goods grows in Russia. For example, the Russian KDV company has been operating in Azerbaijan for many years, supplying confectionery products to the local market. The company's portfolio includes network of ‘Yarche!’ supermarkets in the Moscow, Altai, Kemerovo, Tomsk and Novosibirsk regions. Currently, the KDV company is looking for reliable suppliers in Azerbaijan to fill the assortment of its supermarkets with Azerbaijani goods.

Moreover, Russia is traditionally one of the key partners of Azerbaijan in foreign trade and ranks third in the overall trade between Azerbaijan and all countries of the world. Russian exports to the country are extremely diversified both in terms of the range and the number of suppliers, the ministry noted.

So, according to the Federal Customs Service of Russia, the trade between Russia and Azerbaijan in 2020 amounted to $2.9 billion, including Russian exports to Azerbaijan exceeded $2.1 billion, the ministry added.

"In the commodity structure of the export of Russian enterprises to Azerbaijan, a third of the supplies are food products and agricultural raw materials,” the ministry further said. “Last year, Russian companies supplied wheat, sunflower oil, margarine, sugar and confectionery products from it, chocolate, finished products from cereals, flour, starch, and milk worth over $690 million to Azerbaijan.”

Besides, according to the ministry, one fifth of Russian exports to Azerbaijan is falls on deliveries of machinery, equipment and vehicles. In 2020, Russian enterprises shipped more than $430 million worth of cars, motorized passenger cars for the subway, telephones, monitors and projectors, washing machines and refrigerators.

Moreover, the export of metals and metal products last year amounted to $278 million and included flat products and iron rods, hot-rolled rods, aluminum and products from it.

The ministry also informed about the supplies of Russian-made chemical products - universal and nitrogen fertilizers, plastics and products from them, pharmaceuticals, and detergents - in the amount of over $270 million to Azerbaijan.

"The TOP-10 Russian regions - partners of Azerbaijan in the supply of products include Moscow city, Moscow region, Stavropol, Chelyabinsk and Saratov regions, Krasnodar, Tatarstan and St. Petersburg,” the ministry reminded.

“At the end of 2020, Russia entered the TOP-3 among the states - buyers of Azerbaijani products - a year earlier we were in seventh place. Azerbaijani goods are in well-deserved steady demand in Russia due to their quality and attractive prices,” concluded the ministry.
