Georgia continues construction of Grigoleti-Kobuleti bypass road

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 8

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Construction works are underway on the 14.4 km section of the Grigoleti-Kobuleti bypass road in Georgia, Trend reports citing the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia.

At this stage, ground stabilization works are being done and stone columns and drainage wicks are being arranged. The project envisages the construction of a 4-lane asphalt-concrete road, 22 bridge crossings, 4 traffic junctions, water pipes and underground exits.

The Grigoleti-Kobuleti bypass section of the East-West Expressway will connect the Samtredia-Grigoleti road to the Kobuleti bypass road via, and the traffic flow from Grigoleti to Kobuleti will be accelerated by a high-speed highway.

This project will combine current and completed projects in the Black Sea resort area and a total of 110 km of new road from Samtredia to Chorokhi will allow traveling with quick bypassing the resort areas. This is important both for transit transportation and for the development of tourism and the improvement of the ecological situation in the tourist zone of the country, said the report.

The construction of the new highway will fully ensure increased traffic flows on the road of high international importance, safe road travel and uninterrupted transit traffic.

The cost of the project totals to 228 million lari ($74.8 million) and is implemented with the financial support of the European Investment Bank. The work is scheduled to be completed in 2021.
