( Bizjournals ) - WeatherBug has inked a deal to provide Verizon Wireless' subscribers with weather alerts.
Germantown-based WeatherBug, which sells live local weather information services, said the deal will allow the company to not only send text messages to Verizon's wireless subscribers but also put its weather service on the Verizon Web site.
The deal builds upon WeatherBug's partnerships with more than 80 broadcasters, including recent deals with Chicago station WGN-TV and WTSP-TV in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. The company also has a deal with Hurst, Texas-based Handango, a seller of Blackberrys.
Basking Ridge, N.J.-based Verizon Wireless, a joint venture of Verizon Communications Inc. and Vodafone, has 62 million customers.
