The president of Tokyo Stock Exchange, Inc. said that Japan supports Iran's membership in the World Federation of Exchanges.

Tokyo Stock Exchange President Atsushi Saito made the remark in a meeting with Iran's ambassador to Japan Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, and a group of directors of Iranian brokerage firms, investment companies, and representatives of the financial market, IRNA news agency reported on Saturday.

In the meeting, Saito added that Tokyo Stock Exchange is also ready to cooperate with Tehran Stock Exchange.

He stated that Asian markets with a large population and high economic growth, including Middle East countries such as Iran, are a suitable market, and predicted that these markets will be the future targets of Japan for expanding commercial relations.

Araqchi pointed out that the importance of these meetings is in getting familiar with the economic condition and the situation of the stock markets of the two countries.

The Iranian ambassador expressed hope that the grounds will be created for the activity of Iranian firms in Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Iranian delegation visited various bourses in Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Japan and Iran have maintained trade relations since the Islamic Republic took power in 1979. In May 2009, Japanese ministers participated in a large conference on foreign investment in Iran hosted in Tehran. As one of Iran's largest trading partners, Japan's trade with the Islamic Republic consists mostly of Iranian oil exports to Japan.
