Growing demand from Asia and the United States helped Japan's exports surge 45.3 per cent in February from a year earlier to 5.13 trillion yen (56.7 billion dollars), the third consecutive month of increase, the Finance Ministry said Wednesday, dpa reported.

Imports rose 29.5 per cent to 4.48 trillion yen for the second straight month, the ministry said in a preliminary report.

They resulted in Japan's trade surplus of 650.98 billion yen, an 818.8-per-cent increase year-on-year, the second largest on record, the ministry said.
