Executing the law "Compulsory insurance of disability resulting from occupational diseases and accidents at work" is at a low level in Azerbaijan, because local enterprises are not interested in this type of insurance, the chairman of the supervisory board of the Association of Insurers Azer Aliyev said.

"The companies operating in Azerbaijan are not active in insuring their employees. There are a number of reasons, such as a lack of financial resources and poor enlightenment in this sphere", he said.

Aliyev said that it is necessary to intensify the work in this area to increase interest and awareness of the company management. In this regard, the association plans to hold a conference on the issues of compulsory insurance in March.

"The exact date of the conference is being specified. However, it is expected to be held on March 16 with the participation of representatives of the state organizations, the finance ministry and MPs," he said.
In July 2010, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev approved the law on compulsory insurance on labor ability loss in production.
There were 27 insurance companies and one reinsurance company in Azerbaijan during this period.
At present, only three companies render life insurance services - Atesgah Heyat, PAŞA Həyat Sığorta and Qala Heyat. They may render compulsory insurance services against accidents.
