Turkmenistan offers U.S. joint forum on trade and economic cooperation

Last week, Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov received Executive Director of the Turkmenistan-U.S. Business Council Eric Stuart. At the meeting, Berdimuhammedov proposed to hold a joint forum on trade and economic cooperation, the local media reported.

He suggested organizing a specialized Turkmen-U.S. forum on the development of trade and economic relations between two friendly states in the first half of 2011.

The use of this format of cooperation would positively contribute to strengthening the mutually advantageous partnership, Berdimuhammedov noted.

Such world-renowned companies as Boeing, Caterpillar, Chevron, John Deere, ExxonMobil, Case New Holland, Marathon Oil, Sikorsky, ConocoPhillips, Honeywell and others, which have earned a reputation as dependable and promising partners on the Turkmen market, were cited as examples of the dynamic cooperation between U.S. business circles and Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan has demonstrated rapid economic growth in recent years, Stuart said. Turkmen-U.S. political consultations were also recently held in Ashgabat, which were conducted in accordance with bilateral agreements reached during the Turkmen leader's visits to New Yorkm he added.

Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the intensification of mutually advantageous cooperation with leading foreign companies is a key aspect of Turkmenistan's social and economic development strategy aimed at the modernization of all sectors of the national economy.
