Turkmenistan plans to put its grain harvest surplus up for auction at the Turkmen State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange, an official Turkmen source reported.

In 2010, Turkmen farmers collected about 1.5 million tons of wheat. The sown area was 860,000 hectares. The Yoloten-1, Sahrai and Dzhuvan varieties were cultivated.

The farmers mainly sow high-yielding varieties from Belarus, such as Bratko and Yubileynaya-100, which meet Turkmenistan's soil and climatic conditions.

President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov ordered the sale through the grain exchange, saying that the "profits from the sale should be distributed according to the law."

"In the past year, Turkmen grain growers have gathered a good harvest of grain. And if we add to it the next harvest, we can say that for the first time will have harvested excess volumes of grain," he said at a recent governmental meeting.
