President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov instructed the country's Academy of Sciences to sign a contract with Globe Interstar AG (Switzerland) to purchase seismic equipment, stations and instruments, an official Turkmen source said on Saturday.
The equipment is required for the Institute of Seismology and the State Seismological Service of Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan is located in a seismic zone. On the night of Oct.6, 1948 Ashgabat experienced one of the most disastrous earthquakes of the 20th century, magnitude of which hit 10 points and caused many casualties.
Turkmenistan is currently experiencing a construction boom. Architectural complexes are being built throughout the country, most of them are high-rise buildings- residential buildings, government agencies, educational institutions and shopping malls.
Globe Interstar AG will also supply equipment for scientific research by the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, Institute of Chemistry, Botany and the Sun under the Sciences Academy of Turkmenistan.
