Azerbaijan should work towards reducing the tax burden. Chairman of the Economic Policy Committee of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ziyad Samadzade made this statement during a speech on Wednesday at the second tax conference 'Taxation in Azerbaijan: in the name of the new tax culture', organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Azerbaijan (AmCham).
"For the further development of the tax system it is necessary to reduce the tax burden, improve the tax code and simplify procedures for taxpayers and other measures. Now we are preparing amendments to the Tax Code, which the country's economic development requires," said Samadzade.
He said Azerbaijan is known worldwide for its success in improving the tax system.
"It is the success in the tax system that plays an important role in strengthening and stabilising the financial base of the country," he said.
The chief of the main department of organisation of state registration of legal entities and economic analysis of the Ministry of Taxes, Zaur Fatizade, said improvement of legislation and administration in Azerbaijan contributes to a rise in tax culture and the level of voluntary payment of taxes.
"In a recent report by the World Bank and International Finance Corporation, Doing Business-2012, Azerbaijan has risen from 69th to 66th position, in terms of taxes from 105th to 81st position. Among the reasons for this were such measures as simplifying payment of taxes and decrease in taxpayers' costs and so on," said Fatizade.
