President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov has dismissed Minister of Road Transport of the country Serdar Berkeliev for serious shortcomings in his work, the Turkmen government said on Monday.

A report of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the audit of the Ministry of Road Transport of the country, undertaken on the order of the President was heard at the government meeting.

During the inspection it was revealed that' the owners of heavy vehicles illegally expanded the ramp and load the excess weight which leads to an uneven distribution of pressure on the axle, causing problem in the machinery and quickly wears out the highway and threatens the flow of traffic', the statement said.

Some 468 people involved in trucking without permission were revealed during the audit in 2012.

Heavy vehicles that do not meet local climatic conditions and operational parameters of the highways are being driven on the territory of Uzbekistan.

In this regard the use of vehicles, the weight of transported goods which is more than 10 tons per axle, on far careers without entering the main highway.

Currently more than 98,000 trucks used in the construction industry are registered. Of these, 4330 are heavy vehicles, 3412 of which belong to private owners, 744 are state-owned enterprises and institutions and 170 to foreign companies.

According to local media, Berdymuhamedov noted that there are a number of shortcomings in the work of the ministry of road transport and in particular, the lack of appropriate discipline in the transport companies.

Ministry drivers who violate traffic rules and in particular exceed the legal speed limit and don't stop at designated places, increase the risk of accidents. Bus drivers go home during a break.

There are no general rules for recording the number of passengers as a proper ticket sale isn't provided. No control is exercised over the work of bus drivers; there is no proper accounting of the amount of payment. All this gives rise to numerous complaints from citizens.
