Dry weather kills grain crops on area of 94,000 hectares in Kazakhstan

Dry weather conditions in Kazakhstan resulted in loss of grain crops on an area of 94,000 hectares, Kazinform quoted Kazakh Agriculture Minister Asylzhan Mamytbekov as saying on a government meeting on Tuesday.

"Some 33 percent of grain crops in Kazakhstan are good, 55 percent are satisfactory and 12 percent are in bad condition, grain crops on an area of 94,000 hectares are lost," Mamytbekov said.

The draught hit mainly southern part of Kostanai and Akmola regions and southern and eastern parts of the Aktobe region.

According to preliminary data, roughly 353 hectares of grain crops should be written off this year, the minister said.

In 2012 grain harvest in Kazakhstan is forecasted at 12.8 million tons, Mamytbekov said. In 2011 grain harvest in the country hit the record at 27 million tons in net weight.
