Azerbaijan decreases investments in Georgia

Foreign direct investments from Azerbaijan to Georgia amounted to $137 million in January-March 2016 that is by 8.6 percent less than in 4Q 2015.

Foreign direct investments from Azerbaijan to Georgia amounted to $137 million in January-March 2016 that is by 8.6 percent less than in 4Q 2015, said the report of Georgia's National Statistics Office.

Despite a slight decline, Azerbaijan, according to the results of 1Q 2016, kept its position as the largest foreign investor of the Georgian economy. More than 36 percent of total investments in Georgia accounted for Azerbaijan's share.

In total, Azerbaijan has invested almost $1.3 billion in Georgia's economy since 2011. The largest volume of investments - $542 million was invested in 2015.

Turkey is in the second place with $57 million (15.16-percent share) in terms of direct investments in Georgia's economy, and is followed by the UK - $44 million (11.7 percent), South Korea - $32 million (8.5 percent), the Netherlands - $22 million (5.85 percent).

Total volume of investments in Georgia's economy amounted to $376 million in 1Q 2016. The largest volume of investments in Georgia accounted for the transportation and communications sphere ($200 million), finance sector ($58 million) and energy sector ($40 million).
