Azerbaijan’s non-oil industry grows by 3.5%

Azerbaijan's non-oil industry grew by 3.5 percent, while the oil sector decreased by 0.8 percent in January-May 2016, as compared to the same period of 2015, said the report of the country's State Statistical Committee.

The total volume of industrial production (the volume of manufactured products and rendered industrial services) in Azerbaijan stood at almost 12.1 billion manats in January-May 2016, or 0.3 percent less than in the same period in 2015.

Official exchange rate on June 16 is 1.515 AZN/USD.

During the reporting period, the value of production in mining industry stood at 7.8 billion manats, which accounts for 64.5 percent of the total volume of industrial production, or 0.3 percent less than in January-May 2015.

Azerbaijan produced 17.54 million tons of oil and 12.45 billion cubic meters of gas in January-May 2016.

During the reporting period, the volume of oil production in the country has dropped by 0.7 percent as compared to January-May 2015, while the gas output has increased by 0.5 percent.

This is while 3.5 billion manats worth products were manufactured in the processing industry in January-May 2016 (28.6 percent of the total volume of industrial production), or 2.3 percent more than in the same period in 2015.

The highest growth in this sector was recorded in the production of computers, electronic and optical products - 3.1 times, textile industry - 2.9 times and repair and installation of machinery and equipment - 2 times.

During the reporting period, the production, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam decreased by 6.5 percent as compared to the same period in 2015, while the water supply, treatment and recycling of waste dropped by 0.8 percent.
