The World Bank (WB) has involved DB International, KPMG and Wings & Freeman Capital companies in developing the business plan of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC.

The contract signed in July will be effective within seven months, said the message from the WB.

The contract value is slightly more than 1.13 million euros.

The mentioned companies became the winners of the tender announced by the WB and Azerbaijan Railways as part of the “Azerbaijan - Rail Trade and Transport Facilitation Project”.

The following companies also participated in the tender: Harral Winner Thompson Sharp Klein, Inc. (the US), SYSTRA (France) and Transcare GmbH (Germany).

The project is aimed at improving the railway services in Azerbaijan, as well as development of trade and attracting transit cargoes between Europe and Central Asia.

The initial volume of funds allocated by the WB for this project stood at $450 million of the total cost of $795 million. The WB Board of Directors approved the allocation of additional $220 million in June 2013. These funds will be used for modernizing the SCB (signalling, centralization and blocking) system for the East-West corridor on the section running from Baku to the border with Georgia.
