In January-July 2016, 1.06 billion passengers were transported by Azerbaijan’s transportation sector, that is, 1.9 percent more than in the same period of 2015, a State Statistics Committee report said.
About 123.6 million tons of cargo was transported by the country’s transportation sector during the period, that is, 2.3 percent less than in January-July 2015.
Non-oil cargo traffic increased by 1.2 percent and amounted to 90.6 million tons during the year.
About 82.2 percent of the total cargo transported in January-July 2016 accounted for private sector.
Some 62.4 percent of the total cargo was transported by motor traffic, 28.4 percent – by pipelines, 6.7 percent – by railway, 2.4 percent – by maritime traffic, and 0.1 percent – by air traffic.
About 1.06 billion passengers were transported in January-July 2016, that is, 1.9 percent more than in the same period of 2015. Eighty-eight percent of passengers were transported by motor traffic and 11.8 percent by subway.
Some 8.3 million tons of cargo was transported by railway traffic, which is 18.6 percent less than in January-July 2015.
On average, the daily number of loaded railcars was 430, while the number of unloaded railcars was 395.
Nearly 3.02 million tons of cargo was transported by maritime traffic in January-July 2016, or 27.1 percent less than in the same period of 2015. About 44.9 percent of the transported cargo accounted for oil cargos.
The volume of cargos handled at the Azerbaijani ports was 4.4 million tons in January-July 2016.
About 77.2 million tons of cargo was transported by motor traffic during the period, which exceeds the same period of 2015 by 2.8 percent.
Nearly 933.9 million people were transported by motor traffic during the reporting period (an increase by 2.5 percent as compared to January-July 2015); 96.1 percent of these passengers were transported by buses and 3.9 percent by motor cars.
Passenger transportation by metro was 125.3 million people during the period, that is, 2.6 percent less than in January-July 2015.
Moreover, nearly 1.05 million passengers were transported by air traffic in January-July 2016, or 5.4 percent more than in the same period of 2015. Some 0.2 percent of air traffic accounted for private sector during the reporting period.
