Czech company to supply rails for BTK line repair

Trinec Iron and Steel Works of Czech Republic is preparing to supply additional rails for modernization and reconstruction of Baku-Boyuk Kesik line which is a part of the Baku - Tbilisi - Kars railway project, said the message on the company’s website.

Trinec Iron and Steel Works is a producer of long rolled steel products in Czech Republic.

In total, the project ensured by the Czech Export Guarantee and Insurance Corporation (EGAP), envisages reconstruction of over 600-kilometer-long section.

Construction and assembling work on the first stage will be completed in June 2017. The second stage will end in early 2019.

Aside from Trinec Iron and Steel Works, more than ten Czech companies are participating in the project and it is financed by a club of six Czech banks.

The total value of contacts for the two stages of the overhaul exceeds 750 million euros.

The BTK railway is being constructed on the basis of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey intergovernmental agreement. It is planned to commission the railway in the second half of 2017.

Peak capacity of the railway will be 17 million tons of cargo per year. At the initial stage, it will serve one million passengers and transport 6.5 million tons of cargo.
