Use, export of CBRN materials discussed in Kazakhstan

A seminar on “Export of dual-use materials and technologies in Central Asia” is being held in Astana, Ministry for Investment and Development of Kazakhstan said in a message.

The seminar aims to help the regional authorities of Kazakhstan to improve efficiency of the export control system for CBRN materials and technologies through geographic and thematic expansion, which will include 11 countries of Central Asia and neighboring regions: Afghanistan, Armenia, Georgia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The further plans of the country also include involvement of the scientific community, as well as training people in the field of CBRN export control.

The countries cooperating in the CBRN sphere also intend to create a legal structure to act in accordance with international obligations regarding the export control system.

Activities under the targeted initiative will be organized in several working complexes, including Organization of Project Management, Development of a special training course for the representatives of government and others.

The seminar is intended to create new trends in identification, authorization and licensing of exports.
