Kazakhstan plans to increase the share of RES (renewable energy sources) in the country's energy balance from the current 1 percent to 3 percent in 2020, to 10 percent in 2030, and to 50 percent in 2050 within a concept of transition to green economy, said Kazakh Energy Minister Kanat Bozumbayev at the 8th Session of the Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency.
The renewable energy support mechanisms adopted by the government in 2009 allowed to implement 55 renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 335.7 MW.
"This year, we plan to hold the first renewable energy auctions. I invite investors, foundations and financial institutions to participate in renewable energy auctions in Kazakhstan. I also want to assure that the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan will provide a transparent, impartial process for selecting winners of auctions with further comprehensive support to them," the minister said, reports the Energy Ministry.
On the sidelines of the session, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the French company URBASOLAR also signed an agreement to support the Zadaria project for construction of a solar power plant (14 MW) in the South Kazakhstan Region.
