South Kazakhstan region sees rise in volume of commissioned housing

The volume of housing commissioned in the South-Kazakhstan region increased by 36 percent, the authority of the region said in a statement on Jan.29.

Last year 7,482 apartments with a total area of 721,000 square meters were commissioned in the South Kazakhstan region.

The figure exceeds the 2016 indicator by 36.2 percent, said Aidar Abildabekov, the head of the regional statistics department.

"In 2017, the volume of construction work amounted to 234,145 million tenge, which is 5.3 percent more than in the same period in 2016," he said, further adding that 54.3 percent of the total construction work falls on the construction of residential and non-residential buildings.

In 2017, some 6.5 percent of the housing commissioned in the country falls on the share of the South-Kazakhstan region. The region takes the second place in the country for the the growth rate over this indicator compared to 2016.

In 2017, Kazakh citizens observed relative stability in the primary real estate market and a decline in the secondary market.

The price was stable - at the level of 318,000 tenge per square meter in new buildings in Astana. In Almaty, prices for new housing have fluctuated in between 430,000-450,000 tenge, and the average price per square meter in Almaty's new buildings was about 438,000 tenge in December 2017. Prices for secondary housing in 2017 in Almaty and Astana fell by an average of 5-8 percent, while in some regions, the price reduction reached 10-11 percent.
