China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CECC) is ready to finance the construction of a graphite electrode manufacturing plant in Iran, the company's official representative said.

“This company is ready to set up a graphite electrode manufacturing plant in Iran through direct investment,” Richard Shen said on May 28 during a meeting with Ardeshir Sa'ad Mohammadi, the deputy of Iranian Mines & Mining Industries Development & Renovation company (IMIDRO), the official website of IMIDRO reported.

He added that the electrode plant could have a production capacity of 30,000 tons under an Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Finance (EPCF) contract.

The project will be implemented through two phases, Shen further said, adding that necessary infrastructures need to be created first.

Sa'ad Mohammadi, for his part, said the country currently needs 100,000 tons of graphite electrode as it plans to increase its steel output to 55 million tons by 2025.

CECC was established by the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE), which is a Beijing-based think-tank, in 2011. Its self-described mission is promoting international economic research and exchanges and providing consulting service.
