Iran has the cheapest and best quality cord blood reserve in the world and customers come from different provinces, the US and European countries, IRNA reported citing the head of the development of production and services department of Royan Stem Cell Technology Co. & Cord Blood Bank Ahkan Mozdgir.
Presently, there are 102,000 packages of cord blood in the center and approximately one percent belongs to Iranian citizens living abroad or to citizens of other countries, Mozdgir said.
Citizens of Canada, UK, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Iraq have applied to preserve their babies' cord blood in the bank, he added.
Two more centers of the company operate in Iraq's Arbil and Oman's Muscat cities.
The cost of preserving cord blood for Iranian provinces is 32,000,000 Iranian rials (approx. $761) one time payment and the monthly payment is 1,400,000 rials (approx. $33).
For the citizens of other countries one time payment is about $1700.
The cord blood preservation prices are cheaper than in other countries.
The umbilical cord blood can be used to treat about 80 diseases, including blood and nervous diseases.
