This Iranian year (started March 21, 2018), 105 tons of saffron were exported from Iran, which is 40 percent more than in the same period last year, Gholamreza Miri, deputy head of the National Saffron Council of Iran, said in an interview with the Iran's Young Reporters Club (YRC).

He said that the saffron harvesting will continue until December.

He added that according to the six-month statistics of Iran’s Customs Administration, 105 tons of saffron worth $145 million were exported.

“Considering the instability in the foreign exchange market, it is projected that exports will increase by 50-60 percent by the end of the year,” he noted.

The price of saffron per kilogram is about $1,428-$2,857, he said.
