Over 5 tons of saffron produced in Iran's Isfahan

Presently, on average 5.7 kilograms of saffron are harvested from each hectare in Iran's Isfahan province, while last year this figure was on average 3.3 kilograms per hectare, a director at Isfahan agriculturan organization, Ahmadreza Raiszadeh said in an interview with IRIB.

He noted that Isfahan, after North Khorasan, Razavi Khorasan and South Khorasan provinces, ranks fourth in terms of saffron production and over 5 tons of saffron are havested from 1,200 hectares of fields in Isfahan.

Saffron is planted in 24 counties of the province, Raiszadeh said, adding that saffron is the main product of the province's Natanz, Tiran and Karvan, Najafabad and Ardestan counties.

"Compared to the previous Iranian year, this year planted fields have increased by 200 hectares. Therefore, saffron production of the province is expected to exceed 5.7 tons," he added.

Raiuszadeh also noted that 80 billion Iranian rials (roughly $1.9 million) of loans were allocated for saffron planting farmers.
