Mining resources of Iran's East Azerbaijan exceeds 8 billion tons

Approved mining resources of Iran's East Azerbaijan province has increased tenfold since the Iranian Revolution, Head of East Azarbaijan Province Industry, Mine and Trade Organization Hossein Nejati said, Trend reports via IRNA.

He noted that the approved mining resources of the province has reached 8.2 billion tons.

Nejati further added that in 2000, some 3,000 people worked in the mines of the province and extracted six million tons of mining materials, but in the previous Iranian year (started March 21, 2017), about 12,000 people worked in the mines and the production reached 43.7 million.

There are 735 mines in East Azerbaijan, including both operating and non-operating ones, Nejati said, adding that the province ranks first in Iran in this shere.

Kaolinite mine in Marand county, Nepheline syenite mine in Sarab county, Travertine mine in Sardarabad village and Gold mine in Varzaqan county are some good examples for the mines of East Azerbaijan, he added.
