Kazakhstan's role as container transfer hub from China to EU increases

The volume of container transfers from China to European Union countries and back via territory of Kazakhstan increased by 21 percent since the beginning of the year, compared to the same period of 2018, Trend reports via Inbusiness.

This volume amounted to 104,200 TEU (Twenty-foot equivalent unit is an inexact unit of cargo capacity often used to describe the capacity of container ships and container terminals).

“Furthermore, during the same period the total volume of container transfers via territory of Kazakhstan increased by 47 percent, compared to period January-May 2018 and equaled to 240,000 TEU,” the minister said.

“The physical volume index via transport complex during January-May 2019 amounted to 105.3 percent. The cargo transfer volume increase of 3.7 percent is observed in all types of transport,” the minister concluded.
