Georgia is launching a new project on electronic waste management, Trend reports with reference to commersant.ge.

The new project will be implemented by national Ministry of Environment and Agriculture with the support of United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Government of Sweden.

The project will last 16 months and aims to support the implementation of electronic waste management. The project will assist in the creation of a database of the informal sector involved in electronic waste management and increase of its potential.

According to UNDP, the market for electricity and electronic equipment is growing at a high rate. In 2016, the market volume reached 14.6 thousand tons, and by 2027 it is likely to increase to 52 thousand tons.

As estimated, Georgia uses four times less residual electrical and electronic equipment compared to the EU member states. However, Georgia has already faced the need to introduce a modern waste management concept.
