Georgia’s external trade decreased by 0.6 percent and reached $5.96 billion in January-June 2019, Trend reports via the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
The value of Georgian exports increased by 11.5 percent to $1.77 billion, while the value of imports decreased by 4.9 percent to $4.19 billion compare to the same period of 2018.
In the reporting period, Georgia’s trade deficit came out to $2.41 billion, which was a 40.5 percent share of the country's total trade turnover.
Trade deficit is an economic measure of the negative balance of trade in which a country's imports exceed its exports.
Georgia’s foreign trade turnover in the first five months of 2019 increased by 1.1 percent, compared to the same period last year, amounting to $4.96 billion.
Exports from Georgia were up by 14.2 percent, and imports were down by 3.6 percent in January-May. The trade gap stood at $2.03 billion.
