Azerbaijan among top three trading partners of Georgia

Turkey, Russia and Azerbaijan are Georgia’s major trade partners in 1H2019, Trend reports with reference to the National Statistics Office of Georgia.

In January-June 2019, Georgia’s top 10 trade partners made for 67.2 percent of the country’s total trade turnover, with Turkey ($843 million), Russia ($677.8 million) and Azerbaijan ($508.9 million) taking the first three places in the ranking.

During the reporting period, Georgia exported products to Russia in the amount of $261 million, which comprises 14.7 percent of the total volume of exports. The main exported goods included ferroalloys ($77.3 million), wine ($58.8 million), mineral water ($ 30.7 million), centrifuges ($19 million) and alcohol ($14 million).

Exports to Azerbaijan comprised 11.9 percent of the total volume ($211 million). The major products exported to Azerbaijan included motor cars ($94.2 million), cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes ($20.7 million), medicines in measured doses ($15.3 million), motor vehicles for the transportation of goods ($4.8 million) and nitrogenous fertilizers ($4.1 million).

In January-June 2019, Georgia exported products to Turkey in the amount of $120 million. The main exported goods included T-shirts knitted ($22.1 million), semi-finished products of iron or non-alloy steel ($18.7 million), copper ores and concentrates ($ 13.7 million) and ferro-alloys ($10 million).

Some 8.4 percent of the export volume accounted for Bulgaria ($149 million), 7.3 percent for Ukraine ($129 million), 6.8 percent for Turkey ($120 million), 6.2 percent for Romania ($110 million), 4 percent for the USA ($70 million), and 3 percent for China ($52 million).

In January-June 2019, Georgia imported from Azerbaijan 97,246 tons of petroleum and petroleum oils, 985,6 tons of petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons, 189,758 tons of cement, and 14,614 tons of bars and rods of iron or non-alloy steel.

Overall, in 1H2019, Georgia’s external trade decreased by 0.6 percent reaching $5.96 billion.
