As a result of the fifth meeting of the Uzbek-Turkish intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation and the Uzbek-Turkish business forum held on July 22-23 in Ankara, Uzbekistan and Turkey signed a package of documents consisting of 62 agreements totaling $455 million, Trend reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

The delegation of Uzbekistan was headed by Deputy Prime Minister Elyor Ganiyev, while the delegation of Turkey - by Vice-President Fuat Oktay.

The forum was attended by members of the delegations of the two countries, representatives of more than 450 Turkish companies, heads of ministries and departments.

Recognizing Turkey as an important trade and economic partner, Ganiyev noted that Uzbekistan identifies the attraction of direct investments, advanced technologies to the economy and an increase in export volumes as a priority.

Oktay stressed that both sides need to make more efforts to achieve the fulfillment of the instructions of the heads of state - bringing the volume of bilateral trade to $5 billion in the near future.

During the negotiations, a number of agreements were reached, including the cancellation of a duty on transit documents for Uzbek drivers since 2020, whereas earlier, in May, Turkey had already canceled entry visas for road carriers.

As part of the forum, agreements were signed on cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK), cooperation between the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan and the Organized Industrial Zone “Gebze” of Istanbul, as well as a memorandum of cooperation between the company Uzbekistan Railways and State Railways of Turkey (TCDD).

The sixth meeting of the Uzbek-Turkish Intergovernmental Commission will be held in 2020 in Tashkent.
