By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Last year was successful for Georgian company Toyota Center Tegeta, which on average sells 1,350 cars a year, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

Reportedly, in 2019, the most popular models were RAV4, C-HR and LC150. In addition, in 2019, demand for hybrid cars increased significantly.

“Our customers are both private and legal entities. Of course, the devaluation of the national currency negatively affected our sales; however, the cost of services remained unchanged,” said Tea Manjavidze, marketing manager of Toyota Center Tegeta.

Despite the fact that the purchasing power of the population decreased, this did not affect the number of cars sold. The main factor that contributed to the growth in sales was the demand for relatively inexpensive hybrids, the interest in which is growing, the report said.

In 2020, Toyota Center Tegeta plans to increase sales to 1,500 cars a year.

According to Giorgi Surguladze, director of the Caucasus Auto Import Company, Georgia has become a regional auto hub in terms of sales.

“In 2019, the number of cars sold increased significantly,” he said.

The Georgian automobile market has been quite stable in recent years, its total volume in 2017 remained at the level of 3,470 units (a decrease of 1.3 percent compared to 2016).

In 2018, the market fully recovered, ending the year with indicators at the level of 4,073 units (an increase of 17.4 percent compared to 2017).

In 2019, the positive dynamics continued. For the 11 months of 2019, 4,789 cars were sold, which is 31.9 percent more compared to the same period in 2018. November figures reached 551 cars (an increase of 23.3 percent year-on-year).
